2002 DeSoto Marching Classic
Here are the results from the DeSoto Classic. The scores were taken from the preliminary
competition, as the finals were cut off by the rain and the fact that not all of the judges were
able to complete their scoring due to the conditions:
The following groups received an OUTSTANDING in AAAA rating:
- Color Guard
- Drumline
- Winds
- Drum Majors
Bowie Band took third place in overall competition, which undoubtedly would have been
much different if every band had marched and every judge had given a score.
OK!
If you have been on this web site before, you know I do not usually
post my personal comments, but like others I am officially busting
my buttons.
Along with MANY other parents who attended
the Desoto Marching Classic, I watched with a great deal of pride
as our students took the field in a deluge, and delivered one of
the best half-time shows ever. "The show must go on,"
is the famous saying, and they displayed such professionalism in
much-less-than-ideal conditions that OTHER schools and organizations
were cheering our students as they gave it their all.
I cannot stress enough how proud I am to
be part of this organization. All of the band directors have a great
deal to do with how our students conduct themselves, and I congratulate
them on their pupils - but in the end, it comes down to each and
every person on the field who takes pride in doing their part and
gives their best time after time.
The Bowie Band truly is - the Spirit of
the Volunteers!
